Pack the Perfect Picnic

As we yearn for woven baskets, stripped blankets and warmer days spent in the sunshine we also have an urge to purchase new picnic essentials to make the experience a whole lot more enjoyable. Now that we’re getting closer to spring, it’s time to get out and enjoy what nature has to offer. A local park, a camping spot or in the back garden, wherever you decide to picnic, we have a selection of picnic accessories to cover your every need. National Picnic Day is just around the corner on April 23rd so get it pencilled in the diary and let’s get organised. Picnics are perfect for romantic dinners just for the two of you or with the whole family for a well needed reunion.

A little bite of History

Picnics originated from France after the French Revolution, when it became possible for ordinary people to visit and mingle in the country’s royal parks. In the 18th and 19th centuries, picnics were elaborate social events with complex meals and fancy drinks that sometimes took days to prepare. Once the restrictions are over and lockdown becomes a distant memory, picnics will be a way to celebrate with one another, where we can wine and dine al fresco in the sun and ease ourselves back into some sort of ‘normality’. We do know one thing for sure, the homemade sandwiches and salads will never taste better.

What to pack for the perfect picnic?

If you’re walking or travelling to your picnic spot, you want your food to keep fresh. We would recommend packing everything in resealable containers to avoid spillage or crushing. The worst thought is arriving and all of your fruit is squashed at the bottom of the bag. Baskets are aesthetically pleasing to look at however, they don’t have any cooling properties. A cool bag, it’s in the name. If the weather is a little warmer you would want to keep your food chilled and fresher for longer.

Top Trespass Tip – Carry your drinks in a separate bag or tote to avoid crushing more delicate items.

Our large Nukool cool bag is the perfect little hamper for outdoor picnics at the park or on the beach with friends.
